Heat Is Not Temperature
The misconception
That the metal railing is at a lower temperature than the wooden one beside it, because it feels colder. Touch is a heat-flow meter, not a thermometer, and conflating the two makes half of thermodynamics unlearnable.
Temperature is a state; heat is energy in transit between states. A metal bench and a wooden bench in the same room share a temperature but conduct heat out of your hand at very different rates — the feeling of cold measures flux, not temperature.
